The Heel Carving.

  1. The paper pattern was affixed to the neck with spray adhesive. The edges of the design have been cut with small chisels. The background wood has been carved down to its final depth. The next step was to carve out the details of the floral pattern. Once that was done, the neck thickness was reduced to match the level of the background of the carving so the floral carving stands out from the neck.
  2. The carving is completed. The fiddleback maple striations show through the carving.
