Cutting out the Shell for the Inlay.
-
The paper inlay pattern was glued onto the shell and then the shell was glued onto a piece of wood veneer. The veneer makes it easier to hold and control while cutting the shell. The shell was cut using a jeweler's saw.
-
A small needle file was used to smooth off any inconsistencies and saw marks. At this point the shell piece is ready to be inlayed.
-
The final inlay as it appears on the fingerboard.
