Cutting out the Shell for the Inlay.

  1. The paper inlay pattern was glued onto the shell and then the shell was glued onto a piece of wood veneer. The veneer makes it easier to hold and control while cutting the shell. The shell was cut using a jeweler's saw.
  2. A small needle file was used to smooth off any inconsistencies and saw marks. At this point the shell piece is ready to be inlayed.
  3. The final inlay as it appears on the fingerboard.
