May Bell Long Neck Tenor Banjo
Item B-14

This is a great sounding banjo with a crisp bright sound. The rim, neck, and resonator wood appears to be a high quality mahogany, but it may well be maple. It has pearloid veneer on the peghead and on the side of the resonator bordered by black trim. The thick fingerboard could possibly be ebony but from the side appears more like rosewood. It has a bone nut and pearl circle inlays. The fingerboard has 17 frets with a scale length of 23" and is capped at the heel with a thick rosewood. The width of the fingerboard at the bone nut is 1 1/8". The tailpiece is an adjustable brass piece. The plastic head is in good shape and the strings are new. The tone ring is a 1/4" steel rod sitting on a 10 3/4" rim. The tension hoop is a 1/4" nickle-plated grooved brass piece. The flange is nickle-plated steel and has some minor plating problems. There are 22 original brackets in good shape. The grover tuning pegs are in good working order.
