Buckbee 5-String Banjo

Item A-79

This unlabeled Buckbee banjo was made the 1800's. It has a metal clad rim with 38 brackets. It has new buffalo bone friction tuners in excellent working order. The vintage hex shoes and flat hooks are vintage but not original to the instrument, which originally had "L"-shaped shoes. The rim is a bent 1/4" piece of hardwood clad with a nickel-plated brass sheathing. The rim metal is is rolled over both on top and bottom, giving the banjo a nice appearance and clean sound. The rim measures 10-7/8" and has a newly stretched skin head.

The hardwood neck is made of oak. The fingerboard appears to be a thin ebony with pearl or bone dot inlays. Measurement at the nut is 1-3/16" and the scale length is 25-1/2". The banjo has an original Waverly tailpiece. The banjo is very playable and has a relatively straight neck with a slight upward lift. The banjo has good action up and down the neck and is set up well. The sound is quite clear and is excellent for genuine oldtime frailing. The banjo will be supplied with the shown additional 14 screws installed.
